SLONAKER
The Al Slonaker Memorial Award is dedicated to the memory of Al and Mary Slonaker, the couple who founded the Grand National Roadster Show in 1949. The award has been presented to the best car or truck not competing for the Americas Most Beautiful Roadster title since 1974. With such an open field of competitors, the Al Slonaker Memorial Award has been awarded to a diverse field of entrants over the years.
Each year, a seasoned panel of automotive designers and builders awards the trophy to the non-roadster entry in the Grand National Roadster Show that best showcases originality, functionality, engineering, style, design and craftsmanship.
The winner of this prestigious award receives a $12,500 cash prize and the elegant Al Slonaker Memorial Award trophy, provided by award sponsor Automotive Racing Products (ARP). The award and cash prize are presented by ARP, who began sponsoring The Grand National Roadster show in 2020.
In 2020, the award was presented to an 800-horsepower 1936 Willys Model 77 Pickup owned by Ron Ernsberger and built by Brian Limburg of Tin Man’s Garage.
